There are many ways I can serve in my home, especially being the oldest child at home and having four younger sisters. So how can I serve in my home?
Well, for one thing I can help a younger sister with some thing I have already learned. Take for example school or cooking. If a younger sister is having trouble with her school then I can explain it to her and teach her what I have already learned in school. If a sister is learning to cook, I can give her good cooking tips that I have learned through my experience in cooking.
“The older women likewise…teachers of good things that they may admonish the young women…to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good…that the Word of God may not be blasphemed.” Titus 2:3-5
I can serve my mom. There are many things that moms need to do each day, so I can always help with some of those things. Let’s take a look at some of them. Cleaning is something that every house needs and it helps a lot when mom doesn’t have to do it all, so I can always help out in that area. What about test correcting? Home schooling moms have a lot of tests to correct. I can help my mom by helping to correct tests. That gives my mom more time to do other things. I can also cook the dinner. Sometimes moms just need a break from cooking or maybe they have had a long day and need a rest. And yet another way to help my mom is play with a younger sister, it is also a way to be a blessing to my little sister. If my mom is busy and my five year old sister is getting in the way, I can take her off my mom’s hands and play with her and keep her entertained. Younger siblings love when their older siblings play with them. I know that quite well, because I have four older brothers and I loved when they took time to play with me and my sisters, it always made our playing more fun.
I can serve my dad. How do I serve him? I can serve him by getting something for him that he needs, by taking something to the mailbox for him, or doing other little errands . I can be his helper when he is trying to fix something, such as a water leak. There are many ways I can help my dad.
What about when we have company over? There are lots of things I can do then, too. I can help ready up the house and prepare dinner before hand. I can help young moms with young children, by playing with them. That way the moms can talk without having a child interrupting them so often. I can help afterwards by cleaning up the house again.
These are just a few of the ways that I can serve in my home. What about you? How can you serve in the home that God has put you in?
